Biomechanics is often overlooked when assessing injuries. In our practice we look at the alignment of the whole body, and in particular the lower limb, and how it affects normal movement and muscle balance.
Why alignment matters
When the structures of the leg are not quite in line, known as mal-alignment, pain and injury can follow. If the foot does not strike the ground properly, extra muscle strain and wear and tear can run up the whole chain: foot, ankle, shin, knee, hip, back and even neck.
What we assess
- Standing posture and spinal alignment
- How your feet, knees and hips line up when you stand, squat, step and balance
- Walking and, for runners, running pattern
- Muscle strength, flexibility and control around the hips and core
- Footwear and how it wears
What you get
A clear explanation of what we found and how it links to your pain, a targeted exercise programme, advice on footwear and training, and hands-on treatment where needed.

Common questions
Who should have a biomechanical assessment?
People with pain that keeps coming back, runners and walkers with leg or foot pain, and anyone whose posture seems linked to their neck or back pain.
What should I bring?
Shorts, the trainers or shoes you wear most, and any insoles you already use.
Will I need insoles?
Not necessarily. Many alignment problems improve with strengthening and changes in how you move. We will tell you if footwear advice or insoles would help.
