Common questions

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. You can refer yourself for private physiotherapy. If you are claiming on private health insurance, your insurer may need a GP referral first.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing. For back, hip or knee problems, bring shorts; for neck or shoulder problems, a vest top helps. You may be asked to undress to shorts and a T-shirt for some assessments.

How long are appointments?

The first appointment is about an hour. Follow-ups are 45 to 50 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

Your physiotherapist will estimate this at your first visit. Recent injuries often settle in three to six sessions; long-standing problems and recovery after surgery take longer.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. A friend or family member is welcome to come in as a chaperone.

Can I ask for a female physiotherapist?

Yes. Mention it when you book online or by phone.

Do you do home visits?

Yes. A home visit costs £110 and is ideal after a stroke, fall, hospital stay or major operation.

Can I use my health insurance?

Yes, with most major insurers. Get an authorisation number from your insurer before your first appointment.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice. Later cancellations and missed appointments may be charged in full.

Is physiotherapy painful?

Some techniques can be uncomfortable for a moment, but your physiotherapist will explain everything first and work within what you can tolerate.

Do you treat children?

Please call us to discuss treatment for anyone under 18 before booking.
